THE HIGHEST STANDARD OF CARE
You can rest assured that your pet will be treated the same way your child would be at their doctor. We are consistent in our approach each and every time. The standard of care set by the American Veterinary Medical Association is less for pets than it is for people. At Clements Ferry Veterinary, we choose to set the bar higher and treat your pet as another valued member of your family. We are happy to provide the best quality medicine available to keep your pet healthy and you content.
How can we serve you?
Ever heard the phrase the best offense is a good defense? We believe a good defense is preventative care which means diagnosing potential problems before they occur. We are also dedicated to educating you about the best ways to care for your pet to prevent problems from occurring in the first place.
Our pets age on average 7 times faster than we do. This makes it very important to see them often to catch any problems early. We recommend wellness exams every 6 months to keep your pets healthy. The physical exam is by far the most important part of your visit. During this visit we will formulate a personalized plan based on your pets lifestyle, risk factors, age, and home environment. Our pets are very good at hiding their discomfort. After all in the wild they cannot show any weakness, or they will be singled out. It is also hard to see subtle changes when you spend every day with them. Bi-annual exams and wellness blood work help us stay one step ahead of any potential problem.
As our pets age their needs change. Simple things such as a diet change, joint supplements or a little weight loss can drastically improve their quality of life and give them more precious time. Giving them the best quality of life in their senior years is very important to us. We feel it is the least we can do for a lifetime of loyal, never ending companionship. We will help you devise a specific plan based on their needs.
When your beloved pet has reached his final days and is ready to make the final transition, we are here to guide you through the process. We can help you determine when is the right time to say goodbye with the utmost compassion and dignity. Our pets provide us with a lifetime of joy and companionship and deserve the highest respect in their final moments. We have partnered with Legacy Pets to provide you with the most compassionate after care available. They provide 100% private cremation which means your pet is cremated alone.
Vaccination is an important but often overlooked part of keeping your pet healthy. Not all pets should receive the same vaccines. We will base our recommendations on your pets age, lifestyle and risk factors for certain diseases. We follow the guidelines set by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) and the American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP). Most core vaccines are given once every 3 years.
We hope getting a spay and neuter procedure for your pet is the only surgery he will ever have to have in his lifetime. But when surgery is indicated, CFV is here to provide them with skilled surgeons capable of performing an extensive range of surgical procedures. We are proficient in routine surgeries such as spays and neuters, mass removals, and laceration repair as well as more complex surgeries such as foreign body removal, gastrotomy, gastropexy, splenectomy, nephrectomy, ocular surgery, cystotomy, fracture repair and many more. We also have a board certified surgeon who comes to our facility if needed to perform any overly complicated procedures. We stay up to date on the most current techniques and utilize state of the art equipment to perform the surgery as well as monitor your pet before during and after the procedure. Our goal is to provide a safe, comfortable, pain free experience.
Blood work is a crucial tool in not only diagnosing potential problems but also monitoring certain medications effectiveness and your pets overall wellness. With our complete in-house laboratory we can perform tests immediately without the need to wait on an outside laboratory. This way we can treat problems the same day without having to wait on results.
Digital radiography or X-ray is very important tool we use to help us in evaluating your pet. It is a quick non-invasive way to view all of the internal structures as well as the bones. Just as in human medicine we have the ability to send the x-rays to a board certified radiologist and have their interpretation results in as little as 30 minutes.
Spay and neuter is an important part of your pets health as well as public health. It not only helps to control the pet population but also to decrease unwanted behaviors and preventable disease. Spay and neuter is a common procedure but it is not risk free and not all spays and neuters are equal. At Clements Ferry Veterinary we take several steps to ensure a safe, comfortable and pain free experience for your pet. Every pet that undergoes anesthesia will have blood work performed to ensure they can handle the anesthesia and that there are minimal to no surprises. We place an IV catheter and give fluids before during and after every procedure to maintain proper blood pressure and hydration. A skilled veterinary technician monitors heart and respiratory rate, blood pressure, temperature, ECG, and oxygen saturation throughout the entire spay or neuter procedure. We also use several different modalities of pain control to ensure a comfortable and speedy recovery. All sutures are placed under the skin to help prevent self trauma from licking and there is no need to bring them back to get them removed. Your pet will arrive in the morning and be back at home by the afternoon.
Whether you have lived in South Carolina your whole life or not, you know that our state bird should be the mosquito! They are a year round pest that seems to have no purpose. Many people do not know that they are the culprit for heartworm disease. The good news is it is 100% preventable. Fleas and ticks are also year round pests that are extremely difficult to get rid of once they take hold. We recommend products that are not only effective but safe and easy to administer to keep your pet healthy and pest free.
We purchase our products straight from the manufacturer and they are backed by a 100% guarantee. Over the last decade many internet pharmacies have opened. These companies get their products from gray channel markets and not from the manufacturer and do not come with a manufacturers guarantee. We have seen many products that are out of date, counterfeit, or shipped from a foreign country where they may not be stored in a climate controlled environment. We want to be certain that any medicine that you give to your pet is safe and effective. Heartworm and flea/tick prevention is no different. Our prices are not only competitive but in most cases less expensive due to manufacturer exclusive rebates and BOGO offers.
Periodontal disease is an infection of the tissue surrounding the teeth. This infection if left untreated can travel through the bloodstream and cause serious disease of the heart, kidneys, lungs and other organs. Not to mention pain and discomfort while eating and really bad breath. Good dental care is just as important for our furry friends as it is for us, but it is one of the most unnoticed areas of our pets health.
We provide comprehensive oral examinations, cleanings or “prophys”, and surgical procedures including tooth extractions if needed. We have the most up to date equipment and our team is trained in the latest dental techniques. Our goal is to provide education about proper dental care to minimize or prevent the need for extensive dental procedures and keep your pet as happy and healthy as possible.
Nutrition is often the most underrated and overlooked part of your pets wellness. We believe that feeding your pet a high quality and well balanced diet will help promote a healthy lifestyle and prevent certain preventable diseases. We will recommend the proper food based on breed, lifestyle and health risks. We also carry a full line of veterinary exclusive prescription diets if your pet needs a therapeutic diet. There are so many different types of pet foods available these days but not all are created equal. We will help you to determine the right diet for your pet by using foods proven by scientific studies.
Ultrasound or sonogram can be a crucial tool to help evaluate your pet. Along with blood work and x-rays, ultrasound allows us to get a full picture of your pets health. It complements x-ray well and allows us to visualize things that x-ray alone cannot detect. With ultrasound we can evaluate the internal structure, shape, texture and position of your pets abdominal organs as well as the heart. It is non-invasive and in most all cases can be done with no sedation. Your pet simply lays on a comfy cushion and gets some TLC while we perform the ultrasound. We can also diagnose pregnancy and accurately predict a whelping date.
The Orthopedic Foundation for Animals goal is to reduce the incidence of genetic disease in our companion animals. They accomplish this by evaluating x-rays taken by veterinarians. We are capable of taking these x-rays in order to get your pet certified.
